This course offers a comprehensive overview of the copyright law of the United States, which grants authors rights in literary works, musical works, pictorial works, and other forms of creative expression. Covered topics include the subject matter of copyright, the scope and duration of the rights that copyright grants to authors, the fair use doctrine and other exceptions and limitations to copyright, and remedies for copyright infringement. The course will also discuss copyright’s role in structuring markets for information and entertainment, as well as challenges presented by emerging technologies like artificial intelligence.
