Patent law is a key tool for incentivizing the innovation of new technologies, from pharmaceuticals to software, yet it can also impede future innovation. Understanding patent law is thus important for understanding the modern economy, including venture capital, corporate transactions, and international trade. Patent law is also crucial for understanding important debates on topics including medical innovation, pricing, and access. This course covers the most important concepts in patent law and is designed to be useful to those who plan to pursue patent law as a career and those who do not. Students from all backgrounds are encouraged to enroll. No technical training is required to take the course.
